SIKSIKA NATION MOMENTS, 2020

The project

Siksika Nation Moments are photographs taken on the Siksika Nation in Southern Alberta. The Nation is a mix of fertile valley, prairie and badlands. The Blackfoot people are resilient and have weathered many storms including colonization, pandemics and climate change. Lonely Rez Dog–COVID was taken at the height of the COVID shutdown. Rez dogs are a common site on the Nation. They often belong to someone yet become communal over time. This dog looked lonely, wondering where all the people went? Siksika Storm. While storms on the prairie can be quite damaging, they can also be incredibly beautiful. Siksika Spring is a fresh-water spring that feeds into the Bow River near one of our sacred places.
