FROM THE TRAIN, 2015 - 2020

The project

These images are part of an ongoing examination of Canada as seen from the windows of a moving train. It was the railway which was the uniting link of the country in the nineteenth century. Today, much of the route – especially from the Pacific coast to Toronto – is a tourist experience, a way of seeing from equestrian height both the landscape and the often provisional way in which the country has been settled. It is also a game of chance, played each time at a speed of at least 1/1000th of a second.
